hey guys, i'm an adult beginner who just picked up the bass again after about a 30 years absence... i played very briefly as a teen... i'm just wondering about where to find avenues to jam for adult beginners... i'm late 40's and dont really hit the bars at all any more... so where does an adult beginner find guys the same to jam with?? most beginners are about 14 and most guys my age have been playing for decades and don't have the time of day for beginners....
any suggestions?
Not to sure about North of
Not to sure about North of the border all though there are a few of you on here so perhaps they will chime in.
Around my area (SoCal), there are shops that hold open jam nights, a few bars and you can also look through craigslist ads.
One of the best ways is to get your self an instructor, do a few lessons with him to get back in the swing of things and ask him if he knows of any other beginners or better yet, more advanced players, that would not mind jamming with a beginner.
Welcome back to the fat bottom and hope ya can find some players.

I can't answer your question
I can't answer your question directly because I haven't had any luck myself but I do have a suggestion that might help untill you do find some bandmates. Why not download a few of our BassIAB tracks to jam with. They are fun to play along with and there's even chord charts available for most of them.
great idea
i also have several bassless backing tracks a friend posted on a guitar site for me. just let me know and i will try to hook you up.

I'd go with jam tracks of
Besides the BassIAB project, which is really quite a lot of fun, I'd go with jam tracks of some sort: a lot of the fun of playing with others, but you can fit it into your own schedule and focus on the stuff you really want to learn. Why style of music interests you?

Thanks for the
Thanks for the suggestions... i picked a little Fender B-Dec as a practice amp and it has a lot of different tracks to play along with... but there is no substitute for playing with other people... i don't dig the bar scene...(the smoke, the noise, the drunks) so it seems i'm out of luck... i've tried posting in the lobby of local music stores and online but so far no luck....
It's not easy being an "old" beginner......
May not be for you..
but you might check out some of the more contemporary churches in your area, I believe there is one here that is setting up such a thing for those who don't want to get into the bar scene, but still want to get involved in such a play style.
