I Have a New Color Combo Favorite...post yours

BoH's picture

Formerly, I was always nuts for basses with red bodies and black pickguards. I still am, but the very classic color of white with tort p/g is building steam. I found a G&L like that the other day (no $$$, though). I own neither color, but Wheat's little Christmas jazz pic made me drool, which brings me to this post.

So, what's your favorite color combo?

Bo

i prefer

wood grain instruments to colors, the more prominent the grain the sexier i think it is.

I had no idea Peavey made a Fury V. I thought I knew Peavey better than that. Oh well...nice catch anyway.

I like those red and black

I like those red and black basses too. My backup is that color. I thought my B.C Rich Bich was black when I was buying it. Once the guy got it out of the guitar room he told me I had better come take a look at it as it wasn't black. The thing still looked black to me, but on closer inspection it is the deepest purple I've ever seen in my life. The only time you can reall tell it's true color is when it's out in the sun.

Dave

It depends...

on the bass. If I was getting a "metal" style bass, I would like it to be black. A BC Rich, or a Dean maybe. My Karera was black with a white pick guard, but I removed the pick guard, so it is now all black. My Jackson is a transparent red, so I can see the wood grain through it. I used to own a Washburn 5 string that was purple (but I hated that bass). I am currently looking a a Music Man Stingray, and really like the woodgrain, with the black pic guard (and the circle pick guard they put on is sweet).

White with no pick guard or

White with no pick guard or an imitation tortoise-shell pick guard (preferably one of the more-brown-less-red ones) or a black one.

After that, I go with wood grain and am a real sucker for spalted maple.

For fretboards, I like 'em dark: dark rosewood or ebony. I like black chrome hardware.

I have been on a glossy

I have been on a glossy natural blond and gold kick for a while (no not what yer thinkin' Dave ;P) which is good as that is what my main bass is, well, I still have some hardware to change over to gold. Hate to play somethin' I do not like the look of and in the immortal words of Billy Crystal, "It's not how you feel... it's how you look... and my bass looks maaarvelous." Also a Pearl white and gold look works as well.

My favourite would have to

My favourite would have to be white (or off white), maple neck and gold hardware. Anyone care to make me one? Lol!

I still like woodgrain though, but not the "orangey" look, I like it a bit darker.

Transparent sunburst. Dunno

Transparent sunburst. Dunno why. :)

White and tortoise shell or white on white with maple fretboard is probably my 2nd pick.

Mine is all black with no

Mine is all black with no pickguard and while it is a cheap bass (Epiphone Powerbass) it is starting to grow on me. New pickups and some better electronics in it and it would serve me nicely for some time I think. Though I'd love to change out the hardware to a brass/gold color (I mean, what steeler fan wouldn't??? :D)
