The Long Journey with the Spector

Yeah, some of you know the story, some do not. Actually, it's a pretty good bet that no one even gives a hoot (LOL). Anyway, I've settled on leaving the bass the way it is and enjoying it. When I last posted about the bass, I had it rewired to split the coils and added a Black Ice OD cap to the circuit.

It was great fun for a while, but then stupid things started to happen and I got fed up. So I gutted the bass again (for the fourth time) and went back with my original passive scheme (+ the Black Ice) and am once again very happy with it.

Does the output still suffer? Yes. EMGHz pickups are very weak sounding in my opinion, but I do have a solid EQ to overcome with. I just can't get rid of a decent fiver that plays like a dream. Remember boys and girls, if you can get your fingers to do the talking, all the wiring and gadgets in the world are just icing on an otherwise great cake.

Just a lesson I've learned that I thought I'd share with everyone here.

Thanks for listening.

Good lesson there Bo, why

Good lesson there Bo, why mess with a good/great thing if yer fingers can't keep up? ;P

In my new quest for a new bass or two I have come to realize a good set of stock p/ups and a decent on-board EQ and I can get just about any tone and mass volume at of 99% of 'em. Only time I have really changed out electronics are on my ESP guitar, it went from a jazzyblues tone to a screamin' jazzyrock w/a bit of distorted punk tossed in for good measure.

Glad to hear you got the

Glad to hear you got the Spector back the way you want it. It's great to have a bass that feels right. You can always modify the tone if you need to but the 'feel' can't be dialed in.
