Amazing performance of Amzing Grace

Can anybody find something comparable to the performance of Victor Wootens Amazing Grace? I just can't find anything comparable. if you have not seen or heard this performance you can find it on you tube under Victor Wooten Amazing Grace. Offer up suggestions of anything else.

It really is a classic.

It really is a classic. It's one of those solo bass tracks, like Jaco's "Teen Town" (or, well, most of his first solo album) that really moves things forward. Tracks like that make you say "Wow! I didn't know you could do that with a bass." Here's one version:

Has a nice little intro before he gets into it, where he plays bits of several of his other tracks. "Amazing Grace" itself starts at 1:38.

I like, too, that this performance isn't perfect. You'll catch Vic hitting some notes a little sideways from time to time. Note everything comes off perfectly clean. But, for the most part, he plays insanely complicated stuff with an ease that's other worldly. I've seen him live three times (once with Bela Fleck, twice solo). He's an amazing showman and, as far as I can tell, a genuinely nice guy.

I doubt you'll find much to

I doubt you'll find much to match it, but searching YouTube for vids matching bass solo turns up some great stuff (and, of course, some not so great stuff).

Vic

played with his band Soul Circus here is a smaller music hall. I played the next morning with a drummer who went. He said that Victor had his picture taken with just about everyone there. I think you're right about him being a genuinely nice guy.

Norm Stockton

Norm is a great bass player. He hasn't gotten the coverage of a Wooten, but has beautiful technique. He was the bass clinician at a Guitar & Bass Conference I went to a while back. He held clinics for all the bass players that were there, and then towards the end of the day I got a private lesson with him. It was supposed to be for 30 minutes but it lasted 45.

He is currently touring with Lincoln Brewster where he can know show his stuff. Lincoln is a remarkable guitarist.

Here's a bit of Norm.

By the way... during the lesson I played the MTD bass you see in this video.

I agree

Norm is a great bassist!!!! I have his Groovin for Heaven DVD series and accompanying book. He also teaches at musicdojo.com. I plan to see both Norm and Lincoln when they come to my town.
