Arppegios

Spiky1's picture

I have been searching for neck chart diagrams (patterns) that show movable arpeggios . Preferably with the mininum number of notes rather than accross the whole neck. I am interested in some of the more complex chords. Any good free stuff out there on the net?

Good idea

Spiky1,

I'm not sure of a site with them, but I'd be happy to work them up four bassplaying.com. I was thinking about doing the major and minor triad arppegios and then do the seventh chord arppegios (major, minor, dominant, and half-diminished). Are there any others that you've been searching for or that I should consider adding?

Right now, the scale charts I have live show the note names, but I'm going to add ones that show the not intervals (e.g. R, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). Those make it easy to figure out fingerings for arppegios of all sorts as long as you know the formulas for the various arppegios:

  • Major triad: R, 3, 5
  • Minor triad: R, b3, 5
  • Major seventh chord: R, 3, 5, 7
  • Minor seventh chord: R, b3, 5, b7
  • Dominant seventh chord: R, 3, 5, b7
  • Half-diminished/m7b5 chord: R, b3, b5, b7

Thanks Wheat,

I love the diagrams you have already done w/ major scales and their relative minor scales. I just thought diagrams of arppegios(did I spell that right?), done the same way would be cool, if they were available somewhere.
I certainly didn't intend to add to your workload.
Thanks again wheat.
P.S. I mentioned the Behringer BDI21 in your gear column, after looking at some other gear forums around the place I realized that mentioning the "B" word is like swearing at your grandmother. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Fat man, fat bass.

If you like them, then I say use them. When I was looking to replace my combo and mentioned them I heard a lot of bad stuff. So, I bought a Fender. I also heard a lot of bad stuff about a bass that gets ridiculed on forums, but bought it anyway and really like it. Everyone has their own taste and budget. Behringer sells a lot of gear. My main problem with buying one was that couldn't find a retailer with one to try it out.

No, that's great...

You're not adding to my workload, Spiky. You're just letting me know what I might want to focus on. That's a good thing. I want the site to be the best it can be. So instead of puttering around with something that interests no one, I can work on something that's sure to help someone.

It's all good.

And, as to Behringer, I've heard people talk smack about them. But I've also heard people talk smack about Fender--a brand I love. Our guitarist had a Behringer amp (the one designed for acoustic guitars) that I thought was very good, actually. I think people like to rip on the cheaper gear (Fender's Mexi-basses, Zoom, Behringer) as if we could all go out and buy EBS or Lexicon or Eden. The net can help you get some perspective on what works and what doesn't, but I'd let your ears be your guide.

I KNOW I'M ABOUT TO GET BLOWN UP! But I don't care...

I think people have a problem with them because they are turning out gear that, while inexpensive, has been copied from other designs. However, I have a relative in the recording biz (radio media; commercials; voice overs; etc.) and he uses Behringer's compressor/noise gate rack unit and the V-amp guitar rack unit for his work. He does this stuff EVERY DAY! It is his living, he has no other job.

Anyway, my point is this. So many people are so concerned with the imagery that comes with having Ampeg, Marshall, or any other "high end" gear that they wouldn't know a good thing if it bit them in the hindquarters.

I'm not trying to say that Berhinger makes super-great, out of this world, knock your socks off gear, but I will say this...for the money, I'll put my gear snobbery aside if I find something from Behringer that I like.

Personally, I think most of the anti-Berhinger people are just saying that their stuff is crap because everyone else is saying it. It's like a bunch of sheep--they just follow the lead sheep not knowing why.

Sorry, that's the end of my rant.

Low B, or not low B? That is the question!

behringer

Yep , well i have got a behringer BDI 21 getting shipped over here (to Australia) from the States. I really would have liked an MXR M80 or sansamp but this thing is a 10th of the price. My son is only 14 anyway. It should fit in with his Cort stingray copy and Peavey Basic practice amp. ;)

Hey Wheat, really appreciate the theory stuff ( amongst other things ) that you do on this site. It's very useful. Cheers!

Right for the money

Hey, I think it will be fine for your son. He should have no problems with it. Enjoy!

Glad to help...

I really enjoy theory and I enjoy trying to explain it so that it can be understood! So I'm glad it helps. And you'll see plenty more of it.
