mp3s of your favorite players at the BP Online Store

wheat's picture

Now that Amazon.com is in the digital downloads game, I've expanded the Bassplaying.com Online Store to include mp3s. You can buy full albums, all for less then $10, full albums and individual mp3s for 99 cents. I'm kicking it off by featuring some of my own favorite artists, including many who have graced BP with an interview.

You can buy individual mp3s from these bass-centric albums (and we'll be adding more):

Amazon.com mp3s are high-quality and DRM free, which means they'll work with your mp3 player no matter what platform you prefer. I hope you'll dive in, preview some tracks, and enjoy adding a few to your collection. Every purchase helps the site. If you find any other bass heavyweights available as mp3s at Amazon, let me know and I'll add them to the store.

If I ever do finish my

If I ever do finish my magnum opus, I'll have to figure out if and how I can get it on Amazon and iTunes. I've become a big fan of music as digital download. CDs seem increasingly primitive to me, except as a backup medium (which is what iTunes has, for me, turned them into).

That said, I need a new iPod. Mine finally bit the dust. I'd like the highest capacity one, since I hate having to pick and choose what of my music to take with me. I prefer being able to take all of it.

iPod? Whats that? I do not

iPod? Whats that?

I do not have an iPod. I have a shit load of different MP3 players and the one that I carry with me when cycling or working out holds 4hours of tunes so I have no need for an iPod.

Use whatever media player

Use whatever media player you prefer, of course--including just streaming them from your hard drive, if that floats your boat. We were a three-iPod family (my old 20GB, which died last fall, Gina's 30GB nicer one, and an iPod shuffle that we share).

I really like the iPod/iTunes combination. That's how I manage all of my digital audio, which is mostly mp3s ripped from my CD collection. Increasingly, though, I'm buying more and more stuff straight from the iTunes store and I've been wanting to check out the Amazon store as well. Now I have an excuse.

CDs primitive....LOL! Come

CDs primitive....LOL! Come on Wheat I know damn well you owned 8-tracks at one time. But, I'm quite sure CD's will meet the same fate as 8-tracks did. I've been installing a bunch of digital juke boxes in my locations. I love those things! They cost less than a CD juke box, are half the work of a CD juke box, and make twice as much money!

Oh, there were 8-tracks

Oh, there were 8-tracks around the family home (as well as lots of LPs and even plenty of 78s, since my dad was into old-time country). I remember buying a few 45s back in my day. But it was mostly cassettes when I finally started buying music in earnest. It took me quite a while to make the move to CD, actually. But the jump for CD to mp3 has been pretty painless for me. I still buy CDs at the used CD shop once in a while (even cheaper than iTunes, most of the time). But I haven't shucked out $20 for a new one in a very long time.

Word to the wise: this bold new world of digital everything requires a backup strategy. If you buy music on CD and rip it, you already have a backup. But, if you buy digital music via the internet, you need to think through how you're going to, as IT folks say, "ensure redundancy." On Windows, I have a 500GB LaCie USB2 drive that's entirely for backups. I use a bit of freeware called SyncBack to clone new additions to my iTunes library every night. The only missing piece in the puzzle right now is an off-site backup strategy. I still haven't made up my mind how I want to go about that.

SyncBack is also handy because you can choose to use zip compression on your files. That's not much of an issue on mp3s, which are already a compressed format. But it makes a big difference on Office docs and other text-based files.

Another thing: my dad was

Another thing: my dad was one of the few people I ever met who had a stereo that would record to 8-track! He also had a functional wire-recorder from the days of his youth. He used to tape off the (AM) radio to wire when he was a young man. He get on a kick sometimes to record his favorite 78s to 8-track so he could play them in the car. :)

Wheat

I had one of those......

I also had a vinyl cutter that would record 78's,45's, and 33's. I need to get a turntable to convert all my vinyl to digital format. I still have 800 lp's or so......

I would think BP gets it cut

I would think BP gets it cut but not sure. I got the same thing. Probably to cut down on hackers ripping it from Amazon because everything else can be added to "your cart" right from the store. Lets see what Wheat says ... hmmmmmmm.

I think it's actually

I think it's actually because the aStore interface came out before they debuted the digital media sales. It's just not set up to handle those directly, so you have no choice but to click over and let the real Amazon handle it. :)

Yeah, you get that warning,

Yeah, you get that warning, but, if you click over, BP still gets a referral fee for anything you purchase.

So, yeah. Even just following the "powered by amazon" link at the store will work, so long as you maintain the same session (i.e. don't quit your browser).

Where's My Album

Oh wait... it never made it CD let alone MP3. In fact there are only about 500 copies in circulation... my copy warped in the attic along with about 100 other LPs. So it can never be played again. Crap... track 3 had my bass intro.

Recorded in the fall of 1972 in the George School auditorium. I can't even remember the full name... "Journey of Persephone" maybe... it was a rock opera.

Nice selection Wheat. I feel like buying some Jeff Healy today. I have his blues stuff but not his jazz stuff.
