Chord theory

Not for bass but guitar

Is anyone here any good at figuring out guitar chords?

I am to do a bass line for someone and he would like a root note thing but he is even less skilled at theory then I am and he sent me a chord diagram with the chords he used but I can not decipher what they are.

I have a couple geeter books that list a bunch of chords and off shoots of those chords but some of these chords are no where in either book. A few of them I got but some I just can not get.

If ya think you can figure them out here are the chords

I think the chart's a little

I think the chart's a little off, some of those strings marked open should be muted. But I'll take a stab at deciphering. Or at least showing how I would approach them (w/o the benefit of having heard the song or anything).

First row (right to left):
Dmaj, Dm7, Gmaj (or Em), Dmaj

Second row:
E, A, G, F#maj

Third row:
Gm, Fm, Asus4, Esus2

Fourth row:
Dsus2, Db (or F#), Gmaj, Em

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, overall. But that's a first stab at it. Where I wasn't sure of the chord quality, I just indicated a root that would work.

Chord Resource that might be handy

While this is slightly off-topic, for anyone (especially those just starting out) who wishes to have a better understanding of what chords are, how they're built, and an unusually clear presentation, there is an ongoing series called 'Chordometry' in a newsletter we publish.

('Chordometry' means 'chords' plus 'optometry' equals 'seeing chords clearly.')

The newsletter contains this ongoing series of articles on chords, and it's free. If you'd have an interest, the subscription form is here -- MegaTapper Newsletter (The form requires only name and email, which will be used only for sending your newsletter, and you can drop out anytime with one click.)

I hope this info is useful.
