Ha! Funny you should mention old Grizzly Adams, that's actually where my nickname came from. Some of my biker buds remembered that show, and thought that my lifestyle and appearance were similar enough to hang the tag on me... 20 years later now, and it seems to have stuck..lol.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
The log cabin would be the easy part. My brother in law built one up in OR that is pretty nice and it went up fairly easily. He did it all from scratch as well starting with choppin' the trees.
So what do ya hunt? Soon as time permits a buddy and I are gonna go try and get us some Alaskan Browns. We should have enough to last us a year if we get us a good size one or two.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
I probably should have done the cabin bit a "few" years ago! Somehow, chopping down trees and sizing them for windows, doors, and walls sounds like WORK to me these days! hahaha! I wish I still had the drive that your brother in law has!
I used to hunt just about anything, but mostly deer now. Took a trip to Ontario once for a black bear hunt, but didn't see any bear. I did have a lynx walk up to me to within about 10 feet. That is still one of my favorite experiences in the wild. My guide lived in Ontario all of his life, and had NEVER seen a live lynx up close.... Man, I'd love to do Kodiak Island some time. Probably not in my future though. Those hunts are somewhere around 20 grand these days!!
YEah, the only reason we are gonna try and get up there is my wife wants to go up as well being that her sister and brother in law live up there and they said my buddy could hang out as well. The sis in law and her husband that live up there have been into bow hunting (although not for bear but that could be interestin' hehe) since they moved there and we might be able to get a deal on tags and a guide. We shall see. It will also give me a reason to get that new Benelli and Remington I have been eying.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
I'm sure you'll have a great time Hazz, just don't let the black flies or mosquitos carry you away! LOL! Wow, a new Benelli AND a new Remington eh, you must have QUITE an understanding missus Bro! Hahahahaha!
Actually the Mrs really dislikes fire arms. She knows I have a few and she see the safe when she comes in the studio and she even knows how to shoot (she went to a "survival" camp a couple of times).
As far as the rifles, I have always wanted a Rem 700 and when I had a chance to shot the Benelli R1 300WSM I fell in love with it, it was a blast to say the least. ;)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
My missus doesn't have any problems with firearms, I actually bought her a Ruger handgun in .357Mag, and a little Marlin .22 Mag. Well, she didn't have any problem until she overdrew her damn checking account, and I sold her guns! Hahahaha!
That Rem 700 action is excellent. Lots of sniper teams are still using it! Haven't had the pleasure of trying out a Benelli R1 yet. Heard lots of good things about the .300 WSM though. I had a Ruger .338WM stainless at one time, but it seldom left the safe, as my dream brown bear hunt never happened. Worked up some mean loads with it, and was getting over 2700 fps with a 250 grain Sierra boat tail. Unfortunately, it had to go, since it wasn't being used. I like short action rifles myself, and hunt almost exclusively with an old Remington model 788 in 7mm-08. Eighteen and a half inch barrel, and a tack driver.... Man, all this talk makes me want to get out to the range! LOL!
I should clarify the Mrs ideas about fire arms. She does not mind them, I mean she will shoot 'em and has no problem with owning one, she just feels uneasy with them in the home now that we have young'ns runnin' 'round so they stay mostly in the safes unless I am goin' shootin'.
Funny thing, my favorite rifle for the moment is a cheepo Rem 710 30-06. I did swap out the cheep scope on it for a nice Kahles CL and it gives me 1/4" groups at 250yrds with some cheep 180g BT's. It's a fun one to shoot.
If ya ever get out this way we'll have to go to the range. We have a pretty nice one here that offers something for every type of shooter.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
I can understand her uneasiness completely Hazz, and yep, a safe is the best way to go! I dragged, and I do mean dragged, an 800 lb Treadlok safe into the house about 15 years ago. It was too big to bring in the back door, which was close to where it was to be placed, so it had to come in the front. Man, we wrestled with that thing for hours before we were done, but it was the best investment I ever made.
Funny how well some of the cheaper rifles shoot the best! I've been a Ruger man for years, but I wouldn't give up my Reminton for anything. I love the short barrel, as it's so much easier to use in the brush, and the 139 grain Hornady's are more than a match for any deer in this area.
Wow! 1/4" groups at 250 yards is nothing short of amazing Bro! Hang on to that one!!
The guy we bought our house from had to move two TITAN 7241 (1700lbs there abouts each) to the back of the garage,. What he did was rig a pulley system up and then ran the winch cable from his truck through it and pulled 'em in that way. If I ever get one of them monsters I think I will do the same.
As for the 710, I plan on keepin' it. I was very surprised how accurate it was and it handles the weather well also. Keep in mind that the groups I was shootin' were on a day that had NO breeze at all which was amazing in its self being the range we go to is smack in the middle of a canyon that is open at both ends and sucks the hot air in from the valley.
I am ramblin but oh well . . .
on that same day I had just installed a new scope on my buddies rifle and did a very quick version of sighting it in. Anyways we get to the range and he can not hit anything with in the frame let alone hit paper. He was clicking away all day with the dials and could not hit the broad side of a barn. So I pick up the rifle, look through the site and realize I had not mounted it level because I was in a hurry (oops). So then I took aim using looking down the side of the barrel and nailed the target. He was like, "How the hell did you do that?" So I told him just sucked at shooting and needs to practice more. I finally told him what was up when we left and I fixed the scope. He almost gave up shooting it was so bad because he ain't all that great with out a scope.

If that girl only knew the commotion she kicked off...talk about the butterfly effect....I would bet the real ones will never get that much attention!!!!
That was funny. The Princess just gave me the phone as I hit the reply button but before she walked away she had to wait for the page to load so she could see what kind of boots AND what kind of bass the girl in the pic was wearing.
