In times like this I am reminded of to people, Jack Youngblood of the L.A. Rams who during one game broke his femur, wrapped it up with a ace bandage and tape and finished out the game.
The other was Vince Lombardi who told one of his player, "If it ain't a weight supporting bone than get back out there!".

Ha ha ha, lol, I know, I just look at soccer V rugby and think about how soccer players get a small tap on the knee and act like someone cut their leg off, in rugby some people play on with broken fingers and split skulls and things like that, I even herd about a kiwi player in the 80's that had his scrotum cut open while he was playing and then went off and had it sown up, then continued to play.
Yeah NFL of old though, the good old days. The Rams have been in St Louis for some time now.
These days the NFL is full of pansies and multi million dollar contracts. "My pinkie toe!! My pinkie toe!! Someone carry me off the field!!! I want my mommy!"
I remember hearing of the scrotal incident. It was years ago though when guys like Johnny Raper were playing was it not?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
No I don't know him, I think he was Australian maybe.
This is part of the story that I found:
Take Buck Shelford(NZ). The only time JK saw him come off was after 70 minutes in '86 in France. Buck showed JK two missing teeth but said it wasn't why he came off. He pulled down his Speedos and his scrotum was ripped in half. He played 69 minutes like that.

I hereby crown Jaymie77 the BP reigning king of slap bass. Frickin great, man. I love the groovy slower part (the only part I'd actually be able to play). And I dig the chorus bit with, especially the use of chords and the movement up the neck.
You nailed that 200bpm bit at the end, too. The 210 was shaky. But, hey, it's two-ten!
You rock man. I hate you. I really do. I'm going to take up quilting or something. But you'd probably out do me at that, too. :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
You can do it, Northernbuck. The basics of it aren't hard. Taking it to the level that Jaymie does is beyond me. But just getting some of it into your bag is fun and not very difficult.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
Yeah it does suck.... what sucks worse is not having a computer period. I'm on someone elses now. I'll probably be able to sneek on a computer with speakers this weekend and I'll let you know. Yeah, slap is not my thing, but I appreciate talent no matter what technique is used. I disdain using a pick, you would see me dead before you would see me use one on my bass. But, I have seen and heard pick players who I like and respect, it's just not for me. Beside, women LOVE a man with fast fingers.....LOL!
You know, I totally agree, I think that thats the best attitude, I also agree about pick players too, thats one thing that I get I get all my students to do, is use thier fingers, for the girls, yes but mostly cause it gets a more blendable sound for the band to lock into.
P.S did you pick up playing bass to pick up the ladys by any chance?
No Jaymie I picked up the bass and fell in love with it. Actually my playing and the band have been real relationship killers. From my high school sweetheart right up to the last one. I planned on making a career out of it. Just didn't pan out that way, but I PROMISE it wasn't from lack of effort. I did have an opertunity, but I turned it down because I would have had to break my word to do it. One of those deals where they didn't want my band they just wanted to plug me into another band. At that time though it looked like it would only be a matter of time until my band was signed. Oops! You have to understand I've been giggin' since 1979. I gigged through the 80's and early 90's... a Heavy Metal Heyday. Beautiful women dressed in skimpy clothes wanting to have sex with you is not a bad thing. But, I NEVER cheated on a girlfriend either. When I'm in a realtionship I don't stray. But, buddy when I'm single I stray just a bit...hehehe! I'm single right now so I'm just always on. Women will NEVER be the reason I play or don't play. They just make it fun/miserable at times.
LOL!! Sure do wish I would have logged it now! I'm over 1,000 gigs, I don't know JUST how many. It's a miricle I'm even still alive....LOL! It's been one Hell of a ride! You're making me feel old J!...hehehehe!
I'd take slap lessons from you, man. I can do some things that I'm proud of, but I need new influences. I feel I play a lot of the same thing, when it comes to slap. With other techniques (finger-style, two-handed tapping, etc.), I find new ground. But I'm unhappy with my slap right now. Something to work on...
Yea that’s pretty common problem Wheat that I hear all the time.
What I think happens allot is that we like to play what we know that we can play well because we like the sound of it when it works, that why it can be soooo hard to move on. Most people when they pick up the bass only play the same thing over and over.
What I do now is, think of a new kick pattern and think of a different feel bass line to the norm before I even touch a bass and then have a go but keep at it, most people stop because it sounds bad but then you aren't pushing yourself towards new things. The cool thing about doing it this way it that when you can do it and it starts to sound good then you can add it to what you could do already.
So pick a drum beat that maybe you wouldn't nominally use.
Is this helpful if not let me know and I’ll think of what else you could try.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carburetors man!! That's what life is all about." Musicians Collaboration Studio
Sounds great J! I liked it a lot! The only thing my ears kept wanting to hear was when you hit that chord was to alternate between the fifth and the third. The first time if you hit that E5, then hit the 3rd the next time it would have completed it for me. But, that's just subjective. You're very talented and that's a very nice line. The speed at the end of the video is impressive. Very enjoyable, you are a talented young man! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Dave, good comments and advice. I'll try what you said with the chords for sure, infact thats one of the next things that I whanted to work on, adding some better voicings while moving fast, a bit harder though and takes more thought and skill because I want to play 1 5s but add a 3, 7 or a 9 as well.

In my last band we had a song that was pretty up tempo. One day the drummer and I started fooling around with it and slowed it way down. It turned into a bowmp-chicka-bowmmp song. The keyboard player, the drummer, and I totally loved it and wanted to keep it that way. But the vocalist and the guitar player (even though he started grooving to it) wouldn't have it.
