We have any plumbers here?

Does anyone here do any work with PVC pipes other then to smoke through?

I need to separate to pieces of PVC the the previos owner of the house used blue loctite on when he screwed the coupler on. Any ideas how to get them apart without breaking either side?

I thought about that for a few things on the house but I decided it would be best to leave it standing for now.

Or Jaymie's suggestion...Dynamite. Takes care of a lot of problems. Including the house.

Already cut through the pipes but I need to get one of the pipe apart from the anti-siphon which is also made of PVC.

Although the "JAWS" would make a great play toy, could have some fun with that.

If the previous owner used the correct cement (which it sounds like he did) you'll never get them apart. That cement melts and fuses the PVC. It's as permenant as anything can ever be. Sorry.

On the brighter side you have something to occupy your time........ ;^]

Hazz's picture

Yeah, it looked as though he

Yeah, it looked as though he used loctite but when I inspected it today he did it with the PVC cement. He was an idiot when it came to building things. Support structures were waaaay below par and things like the control valve for the sprinklers are built to withstand a direct hit from a 5megaton bomb. Now I gotta go buy a new valve since he glued EVERYTHING to it.

I sympathize. Some people shouldn't be allowed to buy hammers.....

The guy across the street from me built a 12x16 garden shed last year. By code that should have 12 support blocks. He used four flat paving stones. To level it he used little piles of paint sticks under the corners. I swear I could knock it off it's foundation with my shoulder. I just shake my head....

You want to talk sheds? The one the guy built that was in the back yard when we bought the house was 7'x17' on a slab of concrete 5" thick with rebar and 1/2" bolts through it to hold the floor down. On on the walls he had an Shingles on 3/4" plywood/another 3/4" plywood wall/and then a 1 1/2" partical board wall. The thing was built like a bomb shelter but when I tore it down I realized something, there was no horizontal support. Soon as I pulled the roof off the thing started to fall towards the house so I had to brace it all the way around.

From what our neighbors told me, his first incarnation of the shed was 10'x17'x22' tall. Th city made him tear that one down.

He knew why. Just to give you an idea of what type of guy he is, when we walked through the house the first time I noticed (how could I not) two 24 gun capacity safes in the garage one of which had a WWII 50cal. So we get talking' about rifles and such which leads into conversation about our military days. That was when everything clicked.

He is a very quiet, introverted type of person with a look in his eyes like he hears what you are saying but is looking through you and not at you. He also did a few tours in Nam as part of a "special forces" unit that did a lot of work with chemicals and such. That should give you a pretty good idea of his mentality. Intelligent but not all there anymore.

Some people shouldn't be

Some people shouldn't be allowed to participate in any sort of home improvement projects. Those people should never be referred to as home owners but as RENTERS. Oh wait, that includes me. But I can handle a few power tools. So I guess I'm just lazy. (In all honesty, I won't buy a house because I don't want to mow the yard.)

Speaking of strange home improvement activities, my parents bought a lakehouse a few years ago. The couple who owned the place before them put in at least 4 different methods of heating and cooling the place: A propane tank to heat the living room, a wood-burning "swiss chalet"-style fireplace in the den (that thing was scary-looking), a window unit in one of the two bedrooms, an electric heater for the other bedroom, and some sort of air conditioner that wasn't an HVAC but not a window unit that cooled the heated bedroom and the living room. He also had phone jacks installed about every 5 feet. There were even 3 in the garage. My folks have since gutted the place and installed one method of heating and cooling the place: central air and heat. What a concept.

My dad was like this. The house he built and lived in after I graduated high school and left home had electric, propane, and wood-burning heat. It also had an attic fan, ceiling fans, and a huge 220 window unit (permanently mounted in the wall, not a in a window) for cooling. The cooling wasn't so strange, but three heat sources? That's madness. And none of it was central. All three of the main heat sources were in the living room.

Of course, he was nuts. But you assumed that already, I'm sure.

It is funny, phone jacks

It is funny, phone jacks every 5'. Fortunatly we only have two in the entire house. We do however have 4 plug outlets every 5' in the living room on every wall. In the gararge we have 6 on the East and West walls plus two 220 outlets on two walls as well.

That would be a blessing,

That would be a blessing, actually. There are only four outlets in my garage. A single outlet for the washer, a 220 for the dryer, a single in the ceiling for the garage door opener, and one double for everything else. So I have a power strip in it to run my table saw, my shop vac, and anything else I want to dare run. :)

The house is pretty well set up for outlets. I'm not sure why the didn't think to add more in the garage.

Yeah, I actually like all the outlets in the garage. There are also four up in the rafters. I do not know if I will ever need the 220 outlets. Maybe that is a good reason to go get me a tig welder. ;^D

Yeah, That's cool Hazz. I had to wire a 220 outlet in my shop for a welder. Taught my self to arc weld drunk! There's nothing like drinking and welding....hehehe!

: )

Dave

Back when I was young (in an old persons voice)

I was heaps into welding in my enginering days, I had certs in Ark and Mig, and used all the others too but in that time I don't think I ever came close to picking one up while being drunk, holy moly thats a funny idea!!

Yeah one of these days I have got to get a mig welder for the shop. Yes, I probably shouldn't recomend drinking and welding. A friend of mine and I will get together with a case of beer and a project. One night we modified an ATV/Motorcycle jack into a pool table jack/cart. Grinder, welder, and Heineken. It turn out nice and works great! I have a different design I came up with and one of these days I'll get around to building it. But, Jaymie I am QUITE sure my welds don't look as good as yours do.

Dave

I wouldn't say that, I

I wouldn't say that, I haven't picked up a welder in about 7 years (man I'm getting old)

LMAO!! Well at first Yes!! But, now they look OK. Sometimes I can even get them to look like a roll of dimes laid over. My friend broght his truck back to patch up his frame. That was some hard welding for my rookie season. The frame was rusted through. I only burnt one or two extra holes in it though....hehehehe! When I was on a decent piece of the frame though they looked pretty good. I'm still not a pro though.... need more practice for sure.
