A big welcome to all AB visitors whether you feel displaced or are just visiting. I hope you'll enjoy it here. With just a few more regulars I think this site will start to feel like a virtual home.
I want to say that I'm not abandonong AB myself. Like a number of others I'm adopting a wait and see attitude. Meanwhile, there's a lot of bass playing info here and some great people so here I am.
Please, any of you visiting, say hi on this thread. I want to let you all know that there's a great new feature here starting in April. We'll post a song without a bass track for everyone to download and record their own bass line. Then we can repost it and discuss the style, sound, recording techniques etc. Please feel free to pop in and participate. I think you'll enjoy it.

I just heard from Dags. He's doing better. Mamabear has changed his password so he can't get back on AB, not that he seems to be disposed toward that anyway. He's pretty pissed about the whole affair.
I've tried to get him to sign up here and drop in from time to time. Maybe he'll change his mind but for the moment he's staying off the net and concentrating on getting a band going. I can't blame him but I hope he'll find the time to drop in for a visit.
I also suggested Mamabear might consider popping in for a visit. I have tons of respect for her, she doesn't mince words.
Also talked to Vern via e-mail too. I'm hoping he'll drop in too after a bit. I wish some of the sanctimonious bikini haters could understand the hurt they cause in the name of 'hide female flesh'.

Paul, I have always found you to be a clever, funny and decent guy. I have been a member of Wheats site since it began and like it here. I disagree with your statement about the undercurrent of religion. Many of us play in bands that rock in a Church setting. Being a Christian is not synonymous with intolerance. However, posting things designed to hurt people like Mr. Finn's recent post on AB is intolerance.
If my Christian belief somehow now makes me an unwanted member of Bassplaying.com, I will leave.
There is a lot more about me than my Christian faith. I have a lot to offer and a keen sense of humor. I also play bass rather well with 35 years of experience.
So, I'll pop in and see if BP has become intolerant of Christians... if not, I'll put your statement behind me and stay... if so, I can go elsewhere.
Paul, you seem like two different people to me right now. I hope I am mistaken.
Pete

I believe Paul is referring to AB when he says "I guess there was always an undercurrent of religion present."
and although some of ya'll play the type of music you do, there is no underlying current here other then to have a bit of fun and help folks out with their playing. Well, I guess that IS the current, flow and undertow here. :^)

I'm Good
Hey Haz... I'm good. I somethings react to things when in hindsight I think I good have handled them better. This Rob character on AB sent me a PM that took a real potshot at me being "religious folk" and I took pretty personally. i almost sent his PM to the AB boards so others could see what this guy was like. I have "Christian" on AB because I play that music a few times a month. My real interest is in music that has phenomenal guitar work. I always put videos on my AB page, and they are always guitar driven... never genre driven.
So, I'm cool.

Oh yeah, one more thing, yer always welcome here Pete. Be you Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Taoist, Pagan, etc. etc. etc. This is a Music site and most all religions have some sort of music so it is a common denominator that we all can chat up.

Hi Pete. I'm afraid my post
Hi Pete. I'm afraid my post isn't as clear as it could have been. What I meant by 'under current of religion' was there is a fair size contingent of Christians on AB and that the religious beliefs show up at times. But I certainly didn't mean in any way that that was bad. I have no problem respecting any faith.
There is a VERY small group of ABers, though, that seem to feel their faith and morality should apply to everyone. My reference to intolerance was directed at this VERY small group.
It's difficult to say what I mean any better than that. I do feel slightly alienated from AB because of that small group who can't accept my beliefs and morality as I accept theirs. I know I'm not alone in this either.
I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression Pete. That's the limitation of language and my imperfect command of it.
Sorry Paul
Paul, as I've mentioned in other posts I was being pretty thin-skinned based of a PM I received on AB from Rob Finn where he attacked me personally because I show "Christian" on my AB page.
Being Christian is part of who I am, but I'm many other things and I let that guy get to me. I thought I sensed something here that in afterthought was an over reaction on my part.
One thing I am is a Bass Player and I play all kinds of stuff. I also like bass players, that's why I frequent bass forums.
I'm good and have no problems with anyone here.

I understand Pete. I could have been clearer myself. So how are you. Everything going Ok? Are you thinking of participating in the BASSiaB recording project? We'd be happy to have you involved.
That's "BassIAB" (not "BASSiab")
Just a point of clarification: the abbreviation for this second iteration of the thing formerly known as the "BP Recording Project" should be spelled "BassIAB" (short for "Bass-In-A-Box") and not "BASSiab." If it were the latter, what would "BASS" stand for? And what is an "iab"?
Cheers,

Thanks Pete. Here's the lowdown on the BassIAB project. Listen to the samples and vote for your favorite. There'll be a poll soon. When we have decided on a tune I'll properly mix it, jazz it up if necessary, add a soloist etc. and then I'll post it without a bass line.
You download it and import the mp3 into a DAW of your choice (I use Audacity). Compose and record your own bass line to the song and output a complete mp3. Then post it back and we can all listen and comment on the style, recording techniques, FX, etc.
It's fun and I personally learned a lot from the last one. It really helped me.

Words, words, words.
I don't think that's what Paul meant, Pete. I think he was talking about a certain sub-group of highly intolerant folks on that site who happen to be Christians. They could be Buddhists or Muslims or whatever. They happen to self-identify as Christians.
But even if Paul meant Christians in general, he still certainly didn't mean you in particular. You're a nice guy Pete. I can't really imagine anyone having a problem with you. And I'm glad you feel at home here. And I think everyone keeps it really friendly around here. I doubt we'll have any trouble on this topic.

Hey Pete.
Pete,
Here's what I beleive when it comes to religion:
I believe in you right to believe in whatever it is that you beleive in.
That's how I honestly feel. I don't have anything against the Christian or the Atheist. I have one of each playing in my band. I think you're a great guy Pete, and it doesn't matter to me what you worship. I know for a fact Paul meant NOTHING to be dirrected towards you, or Christians in general.

Thanks Dave. I really didn't say it very well in the above post. : (
Sorry Dave
Hey Dave... Forgive my over-reaction here on BP. I've been thin-skinned for a few days because I let an idiot on AB get to me. Anyhow, I hope there's no harm done. My current musical outlet is Christian Rock. However, I have gone on three auditions over the past couple of months and was asked to join each band. I joined the first because the bass player was very sick and they were a really tight band. He got better and I was out.
The other two were OK but and I liked the music they were playing, but personalities... and vocals, caused me to say thanks, but no thanks.
If I were in a rock band, or a blues band, my AB genre would have been something else.
Well, I'm rambling... hope we're still cool.

BoH,
Griz TRIES to keep his straps priced around $100. It depends on how complex it is. But, that's what he shoots for. I couldn't be happier with mine. He really did an OUTSTANDING job on it. Contact him and he'll give you a price and toss ideas around.

Please allow me to stick my oar in
Hi BoH,
I know you didn't ask me, but I guess the more info you have at your fingertips the better.
Griz made 2 straps for myself and the missus [Ol' Mamabear] and we were thrilled with the result. Excellent workmanship and materials. One of my students Liz has also just received hers in the last week or so, she brought it to her lesson specialy to show me -another great strap. She ordered hers after seeing the quality of mine. Cost - varies a little I believe, but averages around $100. Dearer than in a shop, but many, many times better quality than I've seen in any shop, and tailor made to your measurements, adjustable, pick pocket, complete with strap locks! YOU design it along with Griz.
I have seen 3 of them in person and I would thoroughly recommend Grizman straps. The man is a true craftsman.
Again sorry to butt in , but just had to! Buy with confidence.
