Good to see ya Bo but not much has been going on around these parts lately. Very reminiscent of Bodie California. ;)

LOL!! Nah, this one's a loaner. The "flashlight" computer finally passed away. A moment of silence please...oh wait, I forgot that you don't do silence. Open a Heineken instead and have a drink in memory of my old, dead computer.

Jimi66, In the big picture i'm a speck of dust , but i do so love this site. I've been busy doing a radio show every saturday afternoon, it streams only on the web for washington st university, it;s a mix of acoustic & electric improvisational stuff. www.kougradio.com noon till 2pm p.s.t . Still playin the fender p bass, Checkin out lots of bunny brunell, Gil-scott Heron. there thats whats happening with me. oh yeah going thru a divorce, but thats a good thing, She gets everything, I have the kids. I love it.
Jimi66 Hello Wheat, thanks for the posting of my link. I'm still saving, or trying to save for a frettless, By the way my son whom is 12 has showed interest in the bass, However he does not want to play an acoustic, or a fretted bass, iv'e always thought you should learn bass guitar with fretts, any thoughts.
I don't think it hurts to learn on the fretless. It would probably be a lot easier to learn on a fretless with lines (mine doesn't have lines, and I wish that it did). I think either scenario has it's limitations. If you start on fretless and move to fretted, you're likely to find the frets confining. If you start on fretted and move to fretless, you'll have to contend with new ways to create vibrato, the whole issue of intonation, and, if you're ever going to sound like you're playing a fretless, the habit sliding into notes.
The nice thing about learning on fretted is you don't have to worry about intonation issues (so long as the bass itself is in tune and intonated). But, really, I'd say pick the one you want to play and learn on that. Playing the bass you want to play would be, I think, more fun and more conducive to practice. Squier makes a really decent cheap fretless bass, BTW. If your kiddo is intrested in fretless, it'll only set you back about $300.
